Marlane (Marla) Ridinger

AUGUST 7, 1945 – DECEMBER 25, 2023

Marlane (Marla) Ridinger, beloved wife of 55 years, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on December 25, 2023, in Gold River, BC, at the age of 78, with family at her side.

Marlane was born on August 7, 1945, to her parents, Arnold and Mildred Daberkow, in West Point, Nebraska, USA. Marlane spent her first 18 years on the family farm, being the third oldest of seven sisters and two brothers. Marlane attended St. John’s College in Kansas from 1963-1965, then moved to Edmonton for a job at Grace Lutheran Church.

August and Marlane met in Edmonton through mutual Concordia College friends and married
in 1968. They spent time in New Westminster, Tahsis, Fort Langley, and settled in Gold River in 1981. Marlane became Marla, as August’s pet name became the norm. Marla cherished her years working at Ray Watkins Elementary School, doing the books for Ridinger and Cooke Log Scaling Services Ltd., volunteering at the Hospital Auxiliary, and gained many lifelong friends through work, curling, walking, art classes, and weekly
Shanghai games. Marla was predeceased by her son, Jason Ridinger, and sister, Evon Jensen. Marla will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts of the countless family members and friends who experienced her loving and lively zest for life.

We are very thankful for the amazing service and support that Marla received from the doctors, nurses,
and staff at the Gold River Clinic and Campbell River Hospital.

There will be a celebration of Marla’s life at a later date to be announced.

  14. I have wonderful childhood memories with our sweet aunt Marla. My cousin Sherri and I loved visiting her and my uncle August, backing cookies with Marla, (most of the dough didn’t make it to the oven) going crabbing, -what an adventure- and enjoying a wonderful crab dinner, wandering through the tombstones in the old graveyard near their house. She was so kind, selfless and adored by all of us.

  15. Marla was such a beautiful and gentle soul and was a huge presence in our family. Such happy memories of us all at 214. Grandparents, brothers and sisters, daughter in laws , sons in law and endless nieces and nephews. The masses spread through out the house and the beautiful back yard. The best memories for sure.
